Health Education Major - Community Health Emphasis
Mission Statement and Objectives
The mission of the Community Health Education program is to prepare students to effectively educate individuals, families, and communities about health issues using an ecological approach. To this end students will learn how individual health choices, the environment, policy, and society impact health behavior and health status and to use this information to improve the quality of life for all people through informed decision making and voluntary behavior change. To accomplish this mission the following curriculum objectives will be implemented throughout the Community Health Education program.
The objectives of Community Health Education are as follows:
- Candidates will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to access individual and community needs for health education.
- Candidates will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to plan effective health education programs for diverse learners and in multiple settings.
- Candidates will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to implement health education programs for diverse learners and in multiple settings.
- Candidates will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of health education programs.
- Candidates will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to coordinate provision of health education services in the community.
- Candidates will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to act as a resource person for health education.
- Candidates will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate health and health needs, concerns, and resources.
